1. Who we are
This Privacy Policy is issued by KSD Inc., an Ontario corporation with its registered office at 4889 A Dundas Street West, Suite 3, Etobicoke, Ontario, M9A 1B2, Canada ("KSD Inc.", "we", "us"). It applies to the Khartes mobile application ("Khartes" or the "App").
2. What Khartes does
Khartes is a journey-planning companion. It lets you keep separate journey plans open, combine and optimize stops, compare traffic-based departure predictions, search for places, and hand a validated route to Google Maps for navigation. Khartes does not provide turn-by-turn navigation and cannot read the private state of an independent Google Maps session.
3. Information stored on your device
Khartes stores journeys, journey tabs, map views, saved and selected places, ordered route plans, stop status, departure predictions, reminder identifiers, preferences, and validated pending voice actions in local app storage on your device. It may also retain the most recent location obtained by the App so that a remaining route can be rebuilt from your current position.
Khartes does not create a continuous location-history record and does not store raw audio, raw voice transcripts, or generated speech audio by default. Recent-place suggestions are derived from journeys and places already stored locally and are not uploaded as a separate list.
A random installation identifier is created once and kept in secure device storage. It is not based on your advertising identifier, hardware identifier, name, email address, or an account. Clearing journey data does not remove this operational identifier; uninstalling Khartes removes it from the device.
4. Permissions
- Foreground location: requested when a map, route, search, driving rebuild, or handoff needs it. Khartes does not request background location.
- Microphone and speech recognition: requested after you tap Ask Khartes. Khartes does not listen continuously.
- Notifications: requested only when you schedule a local departure reminder. Khartes does not use push notifications or monitor traffic in the background.
5. Information sent from your device
When you request a place search, route calculation, departure comparison, or voice-assisted search, Khartes sends the minimum information needed to its HTTPS backend. Depending on the action, this may include a place query, route waypoints, a current foreground location fix, voice text, and the journey context needed to interpret the request. Raw microphone audio is not sent to the Khartes backend.
Requests also contain the random installation identifier. The backend converts it to a keyed, one-way hash before storing usage or entitlement records. Those records contain operational information such as the action category, provider-call counts, billing category, success state, monthly allowance reservation, estimated provider cost, and timestamp. They do not contain journey contents, coordinates, addresses, queries, transcripts, audio, route geometry, or provider responses.
6. Purchases and subscriptions
Apple or Google processes subscription payments and receives the payment information required by the applicable store. RevenueCat receives the app-scoped installation identifier, store receipt or transaction data, product identifiers, purchase dates, subscription status, and entitlement state. Khartes does not receive your full payment-card details.
The Khartes backend stores only the one-way installation hash, the resolved Free, Plus, or Max entitlement, its validity information, and replay-protection details for subscription events. Purchase records are not linked to journey contents or location data. RevenueCat automatic device-identifier collection is disabled.
7. Service providers
Khartes uses service providers only to operate the features you request:
- Google Maps Platform: place, map, route, traffic, and available place-attribute data; Google Maps also receives a route when you explicitly open it for navigation.
- OpenStreetMap and the configured hosted OSM service: supplementary place coverage, with OpenStreetMap attribution shown in the App.
- Anthropic: optional interpretation of voice text into a structured journey request; Anthropic receives no raw audio.
- Supabase: privacy-limited usage, entitlement, rate-limit, and permitted cache records.
- RevenueCat: subscription status, receipts, and entitlements.
- Vercel: hosting for the Khartes backend.
- Apple and Google: app distribution and payment processing.
These providers process information under their own terms and privacy policies. Provider data may be incomplete or change over time.
8. How we use information
We use information described in this policy to:
- perform the route, place, traffic, voice, reminder, and handoff actions you request;
- apply subscription entitlements and monthly usage allowances;
- protect finite provider capacity, prevent abuse, and troubleshoot reliability;
- comply with legal obligations and enforce the Khartes Terms of Use.
Khartes does not sell location data, use third-party advertising SDKs, use sponsored placement, or use the installation identifier to track you across other companies' apps or websites.
9. Retention and your choices
You can use Clear All Local Data in Khartes to remove journeys, journey tabs, routes, departure results, preferences, pending voice state, and scheduled local reminders from the phone. The secure installation identifier remains until the App is uninstalled so clearing local data cannot reset usage limits. You can also control location, microphone, speech, and notification permissions in device settings and manage subscriptions through the applicable app store.
Backend operational records are retained only as reasonably necessary for allowance enforcement, security, reliability, payment administration, legal obligations, and dispute prevention. Khartes has no account or cloud journey record for you to delete. For questions or a privacy request, contact us using the details below.
10. Security and international processing
Khartes uses encrypted HTTPS connections and limits stored backend records to the operational fields described above. Information may be processed in Canada, the United States, and other countries where our providers operate. We use reasonable safeguards appropriate to the nature of the information, but no electronic system can be guaranteed completely secure.
11. Children
Khartes is a general-audience journey-planning app and is not directed specifically to children. It does not require an account, name, or email address. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as Khartes or applicable requirements change. We will post the revised policy here and update the date above. Material changes will be communicated where required.
